The Analytical Science Department develops the highly accurate analytical technology that serves as the basis of our research and development, ensures the quality of products, verifies product effectiveness, and provides various types of research support.
Research areas
Maintaining quality and safety: Residual and contaminant analysis and dynamic analysis of functional ingredients
Certification business: Environmental measurement certification, etc.
Microbial testing: Microorganism examination, intestinal microbiota and intestinal environment analysis, verification of the effectiveness of synbiotics
Developing Highly Accurate Analytical Technology
The Department develops highly accurate analytical technology for both physical chemistry analysis and microbial analysis. This technology serves as the basis of the business activities and research and development of the Yakult Group.
Ensuring Quality and Verifying Effectiveness of Products
Food must be safe for everyone. In order to provide safe food to customers, the Analytical Science Department uses physical chemistry techniques, enabling analysis with high sensitivity of diverse materials, to analyze various factors that affect product quality at each step from manufacturing to distribution and sales, and supports product quality both inside Japan and overseas. The Department also contributes to verifying the effectiveness of products through activities such as quantification and measurement of disposition within the body for active ingredients contained in foods for specified health uses and foods with function claims.
Furthermore, in microbial analysis, the Department carries out tasks such as verifying the effects of probiotic and synbiotic treatments in clinical settings by using our proprietary intestinal microbiota analysis system YIF-SCAN® and various other microbiota analysis techniques.
Technical Support for Research and Development
The Analytical Science Department develops analytical techniques needed for research activities at the Central Institute, and thereby supports the search for new research ideas and product development. The Department also supports the business of the Yakult Group through a continuous effort to maintain and improve such technology.
