The Analytical Science Department develops the analytical technology that serves as the basis of our research
and development from both analytical chemistry and microbiological perspectives.
These technologies ensure the quality of products, verify product effectiveness, and provide various types of research support.

Research areas
-Analysis of product functionality and verification of mechanisms of action through the development of high-sensitivity analytical methods
-Development of analytical methods to ensure the quality and safety of products and raw materials
-Analysis of microorganisms and gut microbiota, assessment of intestinal environment, and verification of the effectiveness of synbiotics
Ensuring Quality and Verifying Effectiveness of Products
Food must be safe for everyone. In order to provide exceptionally safe food to our customers, the Analytical Science Department uses analytical chemistry techniques to detect various substances and analyze factors that affect quality at every step - from manufacturing to distribution and sales - supporting product quality both within Japan and overseas. The Department also contributes to verifying product effectiveness by quantifying active ingredients in foods for specified health uses and foods with function claims, as well as measuring their behavior within the body.
Furthermore, in microbial analysis, the Department conducts research to verify the effects of probiotics and synbiotics in clinical settings by using our proprietary intestinal microbiota analysis system YIF-SCAN® and various other microbiota analysis techniques.


Technical Support for Research and Development
The Analytical Science Department develops analytical techniques needed for research activities at the Yakult Central Institute, thereby supporting the search for new research ideas and product development. The Department also supports the business of the Yakult Group through continuous efforts to maintain and improve such technology.
